The orchestral music of Sir Edward German

Whitchurch based musicologist Ray Siese is the driving force behind the BBC Concert Orchestra's recent recordings on the Dutton Epoch label of neglected orchestral music by Sir Edward German.

His illustrated talk celebrates German's notable achievements in this field, chronicles the varied fortunes of his concert works over the past 120 years, and reviews the recorded legacy, from German's own 78rpm acoustic discs to the most recent interpretations on CD of conductors Adrian Leaper, Andrew Penny and John Wilson.

Community Choir Concert

A performance of the concert version of

Sir Edward German's Operetta

'TOM JONES'

Based on the great literary work by Fielding, and composed to coincide with the bi-centenary of his death, Tom Jones is considered to be German's most operatic conception.  The opera opened in Manchester on July 3rd 1907 at the Princes' Theatre and moved on to a successful run at the Apollo Theatre London where it was acclaimed by The Play Pictorial as 'taking London by storm'.

Our Community Choir is made up of local choral organisations the Fauls Singers, Prees Ladies Choir and the Kellsborow Choir ,and the orchestra is composed of local musicians.

Our programme features solo performances by:

Helen Withers, Benjamin Segal, Rachel Helen Smith and  John Lofthouse.
